Early Adopter Fail, Or, I didn't wait long enough to buy a Kobo

It has now become apparent to me that I am suffering from a case of Early Adopter Fail. To prove how cutting edge my technology purchases are, I made a choice early on about what Ebook reader I would purchase. About 4ish months after purchasing the Kobo I now find myself hopelessly cast into the land of misfit gadgets with the recent news of the upcoming Kobo 2 Ebook reader.
Apparently after only 9 months in business the Kobo people decided that new hardware is in order. Shucks do I ever feel bad. For the same price I paid in the Summer a couple of months ago a newer, stronger, faster model is out and available. There are some nifty benefits with Kobo 2:
- Wi-Fi support to ease the process of purchasing and loading cotent.
- Better battery life and quicker page turns
- 'Purple'
Awesome! Let me get my wallet.
I suddenly feel like a iPhone owner that just spent $200 extra because I bought my phone one day too early. I think what happened here is a case of Early Adopter Fail. Gadget lust kicked in and I didn't see the imminent new release right around the corner. I hope no Libraries out there bought a bulk order of version 1's to lend out to patrons 'cause they just got obsolete. At least Amazon waited a year and half-ish before releasing the Kindle 2.
Will I buy the Kobo 2... nope. The new gadget smell hasn't even worn off of mine yet. I can't justify doling out the same money for basically the same device with 802.11 onboard. Thanks a bunch Kobo. I know it was bound to happen, it just would of been nice to linger a bit longer on this purchase. Perhaps some sort of trade in program?
It looks like there is a name for this process of disappointment: Techonology Adoption Lifecycle. It is no co-incidence that the curve looks like a roller coaster.
