OverDrive Media Console and some cracks about Ebooks

There has been lots of woop-de-doo about Overdrive and eBooks these past few weeks. HarperCollins aside I wanted to look at how Overdrive does Apps. After all I get my ebooks from the Library and if there is a simple way to view them I'm all for it.
Finding the App in the Android Market is easy enough. First step is to delete the included Welcome to Overdrive Media Console and head to App Settings.

So Far so good.
Adobe Digital Editions? Alright I need to input my Adobe credetials to enable my phone to read e-books. I suppose I had to do that with my Kobo...
I don't remember this
The App will then ask you to add a Public Library to you 'Favorites' list.

Once you do that you can launch a browser window that is pointed at a mobile optimized version of the Overdrive media collection. Find a book that is 'in stock' and add to your cart and finish the checkout.

Another Login!!?? Ok, let me get my Library card

Finally I can download.

Wow that seemed like a lot of work. Next time I'll just get something from Gutenberg.
I can only imagine why this hasn't taken the world by storm yet. Two seperate logins, and hoping that your electronic book is available. It looks like the eBooks industry is intentionally making things difficult. Good thing my demo book wasn't from HaperCollins or there would only be 25 check-outs left for the rest of St Catharhines.
Speaking of which, this is funny:
(So cool how this made Gizmodo)
Yup. An ebook is just like paper book. I have an mp3 of 'New Orleans is Sinking' (Killer Whale Tank edition nonetheless) that has made the transfer between a Pentium II, 3 laptops, and countless USB keys. It still sounds the same. Sorry I don't think people are buying the argument.
